Jon Sutton - Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
Jon Sutton was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in January 2015 following four months as our Acting Chief Executive Officer. Jon originally joined BOQ in July 2012 as our Chief Operating Officer. He has more than 20 years' experience in banking and prior to BOQ was the Managing Director of Bankwest. Before that, as Executive General Manager of Commonwealth Bank Agribusiness, Jon was central to the establishment of the bank’s agribusiness segment which grew strongly under his guidance and leadership. Prior to this, Jon was General Manager of Client Risk Solutions at CBA, responsible for marketing derivative products including interest rates, commodities and foreign exchange. He was also Head of Resources and Agribusiness and Head of Corporate Risk Management Commodities, charged with marketing and commodity hedging products to Australian institutions within the base metals, precious metals and energy sectors.
Anthony Rose - Chief Financial Officer
After joining BOQ as CFO on 1 August 2012, Anthony and his team set about re-establishing BOQ’s business and finance fundamentals and have created a strong balance sheet and funding position for the Bank. Anthony has over 20 years' experience in the financial services industry. After qualifying as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen in Perth, he worked for six years with Challenge Bank Limited, holding various finance and strategy roles until it was acquired by Westpac. He then worked for Westpac as part of the leadership team responsible for the integration. In 1997 he moved to Sydney and spent the next 11 years working in Investment Banking for both Merrill Lynch and Citigroup, advising banks and insurers on numerous mergers and acquisitions and capital issuance assignments - including advising Suncorp on its acquisition of Promina, the 2007 Banking & Finance Awards "M&A deal of the year". His most recent role was as the CFO of Suncorp Bank, which he held for 4 years during a period that covered the emergence of and response to the global financial crisis.
Peter Deans - Chief Risk Officer
Peter was appointed Chief Risk Officer of BOQ in March 2012. Since then, the work of Peter and his team to strengthen BOQ’s risk culture and frameworks has attracted Australian and international industry recognition. Peter has over 25 years' experience in banking and finance. Throughout his career Peter has held senior banking and risk management roles with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the Industrial Bank of Japan, Australia & New Zealand Banking Group and National Mutual Royal Bank.
Brendan White - Group Executive BOQ Business
Brendan joined BOQ in April 2012 as the Group Executive for BOQ Business. Since joining BOQ, Brendan and his team have focused on re-invigorating the Business Bank through diversification by geography, industry sector and asset class. He is now responsible for all business bank lines nationally: Corporate & Property Finance, Business Banking, Agribusiness, Private Bank, Asset Finance & Leasing (BOQ Finance) and BOQ Specialist which services medical, dental and accountancy clientele. Prior to joining BOQ Brendan held various senior roles over a 10 year period at Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s (CBA) including Executive General Manager of the Regional Commercial and Agribusiness Banking team nationally and the Global Head of Financial Markets Sales and Offshore Markets. Previously Brendan also held senior positions at Societe Generale and British Petroleum, where he gained extensive international experience over a 12 year period in Commodities Hedging and Financial Risk Management in the BP Finance and Treasury divisions in Australasia, US and the UK.
Matt Baxby - Group Executive Retail Banking
Matt Baxby joined BOQ in May 2012 and is responsible for the retail banking division including our owner managed and corporate branches, mortgage brokers, digital and direct channels including our customer service centres - along with product, brand and marketing and Virgin Money Australia. Matt and his team have championed BOQ’s Customer in Charge strategy designed to make it easier for our retail customers to do business with us when and how it suits them. This approach has seen our traditional channels evolve alongside new growth channels. Matt joined BOQ after almost ten years with the Virgin Group, including three years as Managing Director of Virgin Money Australia, where he guided the business through a major transformation to become a recognised player in the financial services sector. From 2003 to 2009 Matt held the positions of Commercial and Strategy Director with Virgin Money in the UK and Investment Director of Virgin Management Limited. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business Accounting from the Queensland University of Technology and holds a Masters of Applied Finance.
Donna Vinci - Group Executive Enterprise Solutions
Donna joined BOQ as Group Executive Enterprise Solutions in July 2015 and leads the Bank’s Operations, Enterprise Program Office and Information Technology teams. Donna’s extensive experience in operations, risk management and technology, and her track record of delivering digital disruption and transformation projects for major financial services organisations globally will enable her to play a key role in BOQ’s own transformation as it continues to digitise it’s business and customer experience. Donna joined BOQ from IAG where she was Group General Manager, Group Digital and Group CIO, prior to that, she was Chief Operations and Information Officer of Westpac’s Institutional Bank for four and half years. Donna has also held many executive management roles at Citigroup over a span of fifteen years, including Regional CIO and Global Head of Technology Risk Management and held other senior management roles at Potter Warburg and was a Director at Country Natwest.
Michelle Thomsen - General Counsel and Company Secretary
Michelle Thomsen commenced her role as General Counsel and Company Secretary in July 2015. She is responsible for managing the Group’s in-house Legal & Secretariat team and for managing relationships with external legal partners. She also advises the CEO & Managing Director and the BOQ Board in relation to legal matters. Ms Thomsen was most recently Executive General Manager – Associate General Counsel – Group Services at the Suncorp Group where she was responsible for the Group Services legal team and she was also responsible for managing legal advice in relation to strategic projects and transactions across the Suncorp Group. Prior to joining BOQ, Ms Thomsen has worked in other in-house legal roles, including with Babcock & Brown in Australia and the United Kingdom. She was a partner at SJ Berwin LLP (now King & Wood Mallesons) in London, before returning to Australia.
Vimpi Juneja - Group Executive Product and Strategy
Vimpi Juneja was appointed as BOQ's Group Executive Product and Strategy in November 2015 and is responsible for product design and management, marketing, payments, customer experience and complaints resolution, customer data and analytics, and group strategy. His team is focused on building a customer-friendly product suite and providing greater customer insights to Retail and Business to target new customers, retain existing customers, increase cross-sell and improve service. Vimpi joined BOQ in March 2015 as General Manager Group Strategy and has extensive financial services experience. Before BOQ, he spent five years with NAB in various senior roles including General Manager Business Management, as well as holding senior positions with AMP, Insurance Australia Group, Lion, Virgin Group, Archer Private Equity and LEK Consulting. Vimpi holds a MBA from Harvard, Masters in International Studies from Griffith University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Queen’s University in Canada.
Belinda Jefferys - Group Executive People and Culture
Belinda Jefferys commenced as BOQ's Group Executive People and Culture in January 2016. Belinda has worked within human resource management for over 20 years and was previously the General Manager - People, Culture & Brand for Elders Rural Services. Prior to Elders she was Chief Executive Human Resources and Corporate Affairs for Bankwest. She has also held senior HR roles within HBOS Australia and Westpac covering HR strategy, recruitment & retention, employee relations, diversity and occupational health & safety. Through her consulting business, Jefferys Harding & Associates Pty Ltd, Belinda worked with clients within the financial services, defence and education sectors. Projects included cultural change, leadership development, change management and employment branding. She has worked extensively with executives and managers in a range of industries and has strong stakeholder engagement skills and excellent commercial acumen.
