We understand that attracting and retaining the best possible people is paramount, so we have created a workplace that makes BOQ a company people want to work for and an environment and culture where they can succeed.
Diversity in the workforce
In order to attract and retain a diverse workforce, the Bank is committed to providing an environment in which all employees are treated fairly and equitably. The Bank recognises that gender diversity is an important component to achieve this goal. Our current objectives and targets to ensure diversity include:
- increasing the representation of women on our Board;
- continuing to grow the number of women in senior roles;
- encouraging the participation of women in leadership programs;
- encouraging the participation of women in our Intern Program;
- ensuring that gender is not a factor in remuneration; and
- maintaining a workforce that reflects the diversity of the Australian population.
Recruitment and selection
BOQ has a dedicated and skilled on-site recruitment team whose purpose is to ensure we use best practice and a structured and transparent approach to recruitment.
The Bank’s recruitment and selection policy requires that all vacancies are advertised internally and through a number of external sources. This is to ensure fairness of the process but also to get the best applicant pool with the appropriate skills for the role and organisation.

Employee Assistant Program
Through Assure Programs, the Bank provides all staff and their immediate families with access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP is a confidential short term counselling service to assist employees with work or personal issues impacting on their performance. Employees attend EAP on a voluntary basis.
Learning and development
BOQ is committed to ensuring that people have the skills, capabilities and ability to be the best they can. In order to do this, BOQ has a number of learning programs that are broken down into three main areas:
- banking and sales programs;
- personal development; and
- management development.
In addition to this, the Bank offers professional level coaching, mentoring and feedback strategies which ensure our people develop 'on the job'. Furthermore, external tertiary support is provided for corporate employees undertaking education or training related to their career development at BOQ.
Flexible working hours
Finding the right work life balance is important to ensuring our people remain satisfied and productive. BOQ therefore has a range of flexible work practices that employees can access where appropriate.
This includes part-time and job share arrangements and the Bank’s Home-Base Work Policy which allows for the flexibility to work from home if this is suitable. In certain situations employees also have the ability to change and vary working hours.
Employee benefits
BOQ offers employees a benefits program designed to meet their personal and professional needs under the three streams of Healthy, Wealthy and Happy.
The healthy component offers employees access to discounts through various health providers as well as access to online information sessions on how to best manage their general health. There is also an annual executive health program as well as a flu vaccinations program available to all staff.
The wealthy component offers our people a wide range of financial benefits from fee-free transaction accounts, to discounts on personal and home loans.
Lastly, the happy component offers discounts on a wide range of products such as travel, computers and retail products.
