Bank of Queensland has thrown its support behind Townsville Rugby providing a sponsorship of $5000 and sporting memorabilia to the Townsville District Rugby Union (TDRU).
Bank of Queensland, the primary sponsor of the Bank of Queensland Reds, has strengthened its ongoing commitment to the sport by extending its support into regional Rugby.
The Bank's Regional Manager, North Queensland, Stuart Edwards, said the financial support was the first to a District Rugby Union, reflecting the Bank's focus on becoming involved in the sport from the grassroots level all the way to representative Rugby.
"We are helping out in other ways too, such as offering special packages to help players and club members with their finances.
"It's the same philosophy - getting closer to our customers and their communities - that sees us opening new branches throughout Queensland, including Ayr, Ingham, Innisfail and at a further location in Townsville."
Bank of Queensland will open 12 branches by the end of August - up to seven of those in north Queensland - taking the total branches to 120.
TDRU President Tony Reddy said the support from Bank of Queensland was extremely welcome.
"The $5000 will be distributed directly to each of the District's eight clubs with a portion earmarked to help develop promising junior players," Mr Reddy said.
"The Townsville District has one of the strongest regional competitions in the State, including one of the first women's comps, and Bank of Queensland's ongoing support can only make it better," Tony said.
"The donation of prime sporting memorabilia - including a framed Bank of Queensland Reds jersey signed by all the current Reds players - will be raffled to raise more funds for our local clubs."
