Bank of Queensland (BOQ) continued to boost its banking services on the Gold Coast today with the opening of a new branch at Mudgeeraba, making a wish come true for the local community who have suffered from a spate of recent bank closures.
Federal Member for McPherson Margaret May officially opened the much-anticipated branch at a community celebration with Bank of Queensland General Manager Retail Donna Brown and BOQ Mudgeeraba Manager John Forrester.
Mrs May said Bank of Queensland’s display of commitment to the Mudgeeraba community was remarkable.
“For a bank to listen to a community’s public outcry over the recent closure of banks in the area, respond to their needs and deliver on those needs – all in less than a year – is a fantastic effort. I’m confident the Mudgeeraba community will support Bank of Queensland for the faith they have shown in them and their local area,” Mrs May said.
Bank of Queensland General Manager Retail, Donna Brown said the Bank’s support for Mudgeeraba comes only weeks after the Bank opened a new branch at Mermaid Waters.
“BOQ’s commitment to local communities in opening branches when the big banks are closing them is well-known, especially here on the Coast. When we open another BOQ branch at Elanora next month, the Bank will have increased its points of face-to-face contact on the Coast by more than 60% in just over two years,” Ms Brown said.
“This commitment contrasts sharply with the major banks, which, despite the Coast’s high and sustained level of growth during the past decade, have closed 34 branches down here,” she said.
Bank of Queensland Mudgeeraba Manager John Forrester is excited about being part of the fulfilled wish for Mudgeeraba residents and brings to the community nearly three decades of business and personal banking experience.
“We’re here for the long term to look after the banking needs of the local area and being directly responsible for the service our customers receive,” Mr Forrester said.
“BOQ prides itself on delivering the best customer service – offering customers the choice of face-to-face, telephone and Internet banking. There’s also nothing better than when you ring a company and a person answers the phone and that’s what happens at Bank of Queensland,” he said.
“We see a lot of potential in Mudgeeraba and are here to support the development and growth of the local area and the wider Gold Coast community.”
BOQ Mudgeeraba is located at Shop 2a, Mudgeeraba Shopping Village, 58 Railway Street, Mudgeeraba and can be contacted on phone 5569 5060.
