Bank of Queensland opens in Geelong

Bank of Queensland boosted the banking services in Geelong today with the official opening of a new locally owned and managed branch in the heart of Geelong city.

Cr Ed Coppe, Mayor of Geelong officially declared the Geelong branch open at a community celebration with Bank of Queensland Group Executive Retail Banking Donna Brown and Bank of Queensland Geelong Owner-Manager Les Warden.

Ms Brown said the opening of the Geelong branch brings the number of Bank of Queensland branches in Victoria to six joining existing Bank of Queensland branches at Frankston, Doncaster East, Richmond and 455 Bourke Street and 163 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

“All of Bank of Queensland’s new branches are being opened under the Bank’s unique Owner-Managed Branch model where the Bank partners with an experienced local banker and we are pleased to announce that the new Owner-Manager of Geelong branch is Les Warden,” she said.

“We believe Les will make a significant different to the way the Geelong community can do their banking,” she said.

Mr Warden, who lives locally at Highton, brings more than 25 years’ banking experience to the Geelong community.

Mr Warden said he hopes the local community will take a shine to his new bank, which he says will offer personalised service for every customer as well as extended trading hours.

“I will go the extra mile, including opening on late each weekday until 5pm and Saturday mornings from 9am – 12pm as well as visiting customers at their business or residence. Being an owner-manager means I am also a small business owner myself and can relate directly to the needs of the SME market,” Mr Warden said.

“I’m here to support the community with all their personal and business banking needs and I believe my two and a half decades in Victorian banking experience combined with my intimate knowledge of the local area will be a great benefit to the community.

“Bank of Queensland prides itself on delivering the best customer service – offering customers the choice of person2person™, telephone and Internet banking. There’s also nothing better than when you ring a company and a person answers the phone and that’s what happens at Bank of Queensland.

“That was part of the attraction in being a Bank of Queensland Owner-Manager. I grew up in an era where people knew their local bank manager and this is what I hope to bring to Geelong,” he said.

Exclusive to Bank of Queensland Geelong is an opening interest rate special on the Premier Investment Account, which offers a rate of 5.4% p.a. (end of term) fixed for six months for amounts between $5,000 to $249,999. The offer is valid to close of business on 3 December 2004.

Bank of Queensland Geelong is located on the corner of Malop and Moorabool Streets and can be contacted on phone 03 5225 9840.
