Bank of Queensland opens in Footscray

Footscray gained a boost to its banking services this week with the opening of a Bank of Queensland branch (opened Monday 13 December), bringing genuine face-to-face banking to the area.

Bank of Queensland Managing Director David Liddy said he is proud to announce that the new Footscray Owner-Managed Branch will be owned and operated by experienced Melbourne banker Ben Pham.

The Owner-Managed Branch (OMB®) is a concept unique to Bank of Queensland where experienced bankers own their branch and partner the Bank in providing communities with a superior level of face-to-face service.

The Footscray branch is in the first wave of 100 branches Bank of Queensland will establish throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Australia’s Capital Territory by August 2006. By Christmas, the first 17 will be open for business.

The Footscray branch is the seventh Bank of Queensland branch to open in Victoria and joins other branches at 163 Bourke Street and 455 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD, Frankston, Richmond, Doncaster East and Geelong.

Bank of Queensland Footscray Owner-Manager Ben Pham, a local Coburg resident, brings to his branch and the local community more than eight years’ banking experience including three years working in Footscray.

Mr Pham said the fact that he owned his branch made a great difference to the way he could serve the Footscray market.

“I believe genuine service in banking is becoming hard to find and as owner of my branch, I aim to make excellent face-to-face service once again a standard feature,” Mr Pham said.

“Things like being able to personally assist my customers and spend enough time with them to fully meet their needs add up to an unprecedented level of service.

“My branch will have extended trading hours including opening on Saturdays from 10am – 1pm to make banking even more convenient for the community.

“I am also fluent in Vietnamese and I am looking forward to breaking down the language barrier that the Vietnamese community may experience in their dealings with other banks. My staff are also fluent in Malaysian, Indonesian, Cantonese and Mandarin.

“Unlike the other banks, I can make local decisions and, because I am a small owner-operated business like any other, I am really a part of the local community,” Mr Pham said.

Bank of Queensland Footscray is centrally located at 122 Nicholson Street, Footscray and can be contacted on 03 8379 6000. The opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9:30am – 4:30pm, Friday 9:30am – 5pm and Saturday 10am – 1pm.
