Bank of Queensland celebrates Chinese New Year with new Melbourne CBD Branch

The opening of Bank of Queensland's 100 Exhibition Street branch was made official last night, on the eve of the Chinese New Year, at a community celebration held in true Chinese style - and featuring a traditional lion dance.

Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Cr John So, declared Bank of Queensland's CBD branch open with the assistance of the Bank's Group Executive Retail Banking, Donna Quinn, and Branch Owner-Manager, Josephine Tan.

Ms Quinn said the opening of the 100 Exhibition Street branch brought the number of Bank of Queensland branches in Victoria to eight, joining existing branches at 455 Bourke Street, 163 Bourke Street, Frankston, Doncaster East, Richmond, Footscray and Geelong.

They are all Owner-Managed Branches, which offer superior customer service tailored to their local communities and are, of course, owned by the people who manage them, Ms Quinn said.

Owner-Manager of the 100 Exhibition Street branch is local banker and businessperson Josephine Tan.

Ms Tan said that, drawing on her 23 years' banking experience and her Chinese community background, she could make a great difference to the way Melbourne's CBD market was served.

As well as being an experienced banker, I have been working in Melbourne's CBD for 16 years and am looking forward to building a long and rewarding association with the local community and being directly responsible for the service they receive, she said.

The branch will offer Bank of Queensland's dedicated customer service known as person2person™ banking, which is all about building relationships with the customer.

One of the many ways we hope to do this is by making it easier for people who may have experienced problems with other banks because of a language barrier.

My staff and I are multilingual. Between us we speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Malay, Hokkien and, of course, English, Ms Tan said.

I was also very pleased to be able to officially open the new branch with a traditional Chinese celebration as I have come from a Chinese community, she said.
