Bank of Queensland welcomed to Fairfield

The inner Melbourne suburb of Fairfield has turned out in force to welcome its second bank and the first to be both owned and managed by a local businessman.

Federal Member for Wills, The Hon. Kelvin Thomson officially declared the branch open in front of a gathering of nearly 150 local residents and businesspeople, including two mayors, three MPs and a bevy of local Councillors.

Mr Thomson, said he was delighted to be involved in the opening of the Bank of Queensland's Fairfield branch.

“Bank consumers, like other consumers, are best served when there is competition and consumer choice. I hope Bank of Queensland's presence in this area will help provide that competition and choice, and I wish it success in the future,” Mr Thomson said.

Managing Director David Liddy said Bank of Queensland’s ongoing strong expansion into New South Wales and Victoria was central to its growth strategy.

“With our accelerated growth in Queensland giving us a full network in this state, it was logical to expand into the larger markets of New South Wales and Victoria to target future growth,” Mr Liddy said.

“The BOQ Owner-Managed model™ allows experienced bankers to both own and manage a full-service branch, ensuring local decision-making and much higher standards of service for customers, backed by the security of a 130-year-old financial institution.

“Success of our Owner-Managed Branches™ relies on the local bankers like Nicholas Azar who decide to partner with us and offer their communities something different.

Bank of Queensland Fairfield Owner-Manager Nicholas Azar said owning rather than just working in a bank branch allowed him to really make a difference in the community.

“Because I own this branch, I can give my customers as much personal attention as they need, even after-hours or at their homes, if need be.  I am on call to service their needs 24/7,” Mr Azar said.

“And we are a local business so we know the importance of keeping the customer happy.

“I would encourage residents and businesses to simply drop in over the coming weeks to see just what a difference having a real, personal bank manager can make.”

Fairfield is the latest in a flurry of Bank of Queensland Owner-Managed Branches™ to open in central Melbourne over the past six months. The branch is located at 104 Station Street and can be phoned directly on 9241 7000.
