After years of big banks forcing customers to use automated teller machines and online technology, a Sydney businesswoman has taken a stand and decided to bring friendly, face-to-face banking back to Rhodes.
The new branch, officially opened last night, is owned and managed by Shauna Geraghty who said she was proud to have brought a new small business to the area and in so doing boosted the local economy.
Member for Drummoyne, Angela D’Amore MP, Bank of Queensland’s Group Executive Retail Banking Donna Quinn and a bevy of local community members, were on hand to welcome the new business to the area.
Ms Quinn said the Bank’s rapid expansion outside its home state had been possible because of its unique Owner-Managed Branch (OMB) model.
“Bank of Queensland has been building its OMB network throughout Queensland for more than four years,” Ms Quinn said.
“Since the model has worked so well in our home state it was logical to expand into other markets, allowing more communities to once again do their banking face-to-face without the penalties.”
Bank of Queensland Rhodes is a full service branch, backed by technological solutions like EasyPhone and Internet Banking, as well as more than 2,000 ATMs across Australia.
Owner-Manager Shauna Geraghty said she couldn’t wait to show the Rhodes community just what they had been missing out on from the big banks.
“I have worked in the banking industry for more than 13 years, with further experience running my own business,” Ms Geraghty said.
“I know how important it is to have a bank manager who understands how a business works and how essential customer service is.
“I am a local business like so many others in Rhodes, I’m here for the long haul and I’m backed by a bank that’s been around for more than 130 years,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to drop into the branch to see just how different we are. However, if you can’t make it into the branch, we’ll happily come to you at a time and place that suits you.”
Bank of Queensland Rhodes is located at Rhodes Waterside Shopping Centre, 3 Rider Boulevard. Shauna and her team can be contacted directly on 9739 6044.
