Life’s a beach for BOQ in Miranda

Relaxed lifestyle and clean, sandy beaches formed a common link between Sydney’s beachside suburbs and tropical Queensland at the official opening of Bank of Queensland Miranda last night.

Surrounded by sand dunes and surfboards, palm trees and pineapples, the Mayor of Sutherland Shire, Clr Kevin Schreiber, and Member for Miranda Barry Collier welcomed Bank of Queensland’s 29th Owner-Managed Branch to Sydney as the Beach Boys rocked in the background.

Clr Schreiber commended local Owner-Managers Stephen and Lauren Sargent for their personal commitment to and investment in the Miranda community.

“In a climate where businesses of all kinds are bringing in automated systems, it is wonderful to see an organisation that is committed to providing that personal interaction,” he said.

“By putting local people in charge of the branches, Bank of Queensland provides a real link to the local community and a level of local knowledge that can’t be offered by many other financial institutions.

“As a small business owner myself, I know the importance of providing good service to customers.

If you support the local community, they in turn will support you,” Clr Schreiber said.

Mr Collier said he couldn’t remember the last time a bank branch opened in the area.

“After five bank closures in my electorate in four years, a bank is actually opening! This truly is a great event!” he said.

“What makes it even better again – the icing on the cake – is that the bank is actually owned, managed and run by Shire locals.

“It’s also refreshing to see a return of something which the Big 4 somehow lost along the way, but now recognise the importance of: good old fashioned face-to-face customer service,” Mr Collier said.

The Bank’s Group Executive Retail Banking Donna Quinn said the success of each of its 29 Owner-Managed Branches in Sydney in providing genuine, attentive person2person banking to local people ensured the Harbour City would see much more from Bank of Queensland in coming years.

“Our Owner-Managed Branch model brings the best of both worlds to the Sutherland Shire – all the security and strength of a 130-year-old bank combined with the service and local knowledge of a small business,” Ms Quinn said.

BOQ Miranda is a family business, owned and managed by husband and wife team, Stephen and Lauren Sargent, who are relishing being able to personally serve their customers.

”We are really enjoying seeing and serving our friends, neighbours and fellow residents and businesses and would invite the whole community to simply drop in and see just what a difference having real, personal bank managers can make,” said Lauren.
