Local business leaders and international rugby legend support local bank branch

Bank of Queensland has taken advantage of the Central Coast’s continued strong growth and its own ongoing program of expansion, with plans to open a second Owner-Managed Branch (OMB) in the region on Monday, 28 August 2006.

The new branch has received strong support from the community and has already signed up its first customer, international rugby legend, Uli Schmidt.

Located at the Westfield Shopping Centre in Tuggerah, the new branch joins the Bank’s other branch at Erina and a local network of ATMs to service the fast-growing region.

Bank of Queensland Tuggerah is owned and managed by local businessman Paul van Dyk, who said he planned to tap into the continued powerful growth in the area and make a real contribution to the enormous future potential of the region.

“Despite being one of the fastest growing areas in NSW, the small businesses on the Central Coast have largely been left to their own devices by the big banks,” said Mr Van Dyk.

“Like Stewart Gall, the Owner-Manager at Erina, I am empowered to use my 26 years’ finance and banking experience, local knowledge, community networks and belief in relationship banking to really make a difference to this region. We really hope to be a different bank and provide real local service.

“I am my own boss in terms of customer service. Whether it be lending a young family money for their first home or providing funds for a local business to expand, I am able to personally focus on each and every customer to make sure their needs are met,” he said.

“In fact, we have already signed up our first customer, international rugby legend Uli Schmidt, and medical doctor to the Springbok team during the last rugby union world cup.

“Uli has chosen the Central Coast as his new family, attracted by the friendliness of the local community and the splendour of the region.

“He is practicing medicine at Waratah Medical Services and it is exceptionally pleasing that for all his professional banking needs he has chosen the BOQ Owner-Managed Branch at Tuggerah which shows total support for the local community.

The Tuggerah branch, BOQ’s 73rd outside Queensland and its 213th overall, will initially create four local jobs with a further three Financial Services Internships starting in December 2006.

BOQ Tuggerah, which will be open six days a week, will be located at Westfield Shopping Centre, next door to Westpac. Paul and his team can be contact directly by phoning 4356 9055.
