Penrith’s first BOQ branch proves service counts

Penrith’s only locally-owned bank, Bank of Queensland recently achieved a major milestone, celebrating its first birthday.

Owner-Manager Anthony Walker said his first year in business had proven that people really do care about personalised service, regardless of the Queensland brand.

“I’ve always believed that a community bank was necessary for the people in the Penrith area. Because I am a local, I listen to the people and understand what their banking requirements are. That is, a community bank and a long term relationship with their bank manager.

“Our research indicated that if people believed they were getting real personalised customer service, they didn’t care about the brand.  And the success of our first 12 months has proved this!

“We have written over $50 million in business over the first 12 months, and have grown our customer base from zero to well over 1000.

“The feedback I’ve had from my customers has been really positive, and I’ve had the opportunity to develop relationships with them that I don’t think managers who don’t own their own branch would have.

“Most of my customers love the fact that I’m able to make decisions about their business here, in my branch, rather than having to refer them back to head office.

“I’m the one who knows them, who has sat down over a cup of coffee with them and worked out their finances with them, so I should be making the decisions that affect them.”

Bank of Queensland Penrith is located at 77 Station Street and can be contacted directly on 4723 7650.

The branch has its first birthday on 22 August.
