BOQ North Ward wins Best Branch, Best Manager for second consecutive year


Bank of Queensland’s North Ward Branch has retained its position at the top of the BOQ totem pole, taking out Best Branch and Best Branch Manager for the second year running in the Bank’s recent Reach for the Stars recognition awards.

Assisted by Townsville’s booming economy and the team’s unequalled customer service, the North Ward Branch surpassed all its budgets for the year and established itself as the best performing branch of 215 branches in four states and two territories.

Managing Director David Liddy said the North Ward Branch, which has only been open for about two and a half years, epitomised the Bank’s focus on excellence and fully deserved the accolades.

“North Ward’s two Owner-Managers, Declan Carnes and Matthew Buchanan, represent the Bank’s five core values – passion, achievement, courage, integrity and team work – and this is reflected both in their growing customer base and their branch’s amazing financial performance,” Mr Liddy said.

“As an example, in the past 12 months, North Ward has approved loans to a value three times their budget.

“But what we keep hearing about from his customers is Declan’s focus on providing them with the best possible personal service.  And that is why Declan has also been short-listed for the Face of BOQ Award! 

“The Faces of BOQ go above and beyond the expectations of their customers with no limitations on their definition of customer service and this certainly describes Declan.

“Customers actually go out of their way to visit their branch and take the time to write and tell us how well Declan and the team looks after them.

“They tell us that visiting the branch is always a positive experience and at the end of the day, that is what the Bank of Queensland difference is all about.

“Declan is also very active in the Townsville community and works solidly in maintaining a high profile for both his branch and Bank of Queensland.

“I’m delighted to see Declan recognised as Branch Manager of the Year, and Declan, Matthew and their team recognised as Branch of the Year, for the second year running.  They really are doing a fantastic job!” Mr Liddy said.

Mr Liddy’s comments were echoed by Mr Buchanan.

“It’s great to see all of the team’s hard work recognised with both the Branch of the Year and Branch Manager of the Year Awards.  And of course, there have been a lot of opportunities to give Declan a bit of a ribbing over being short-listed for the ‘Face of BOQ’!”

Mr Carnes said he was pleased to be acknowledged for the success of their branch in its first two and a half years and for the tribute to his customer service.

North Ward is one of five Bank of Queensland branches and a business banking centre in Townsville, the centre of the Bank’s North Queensland operation which continues to power ahead.
