Help put a smile on a sick kid’s face with this year’s B105 Christmas Appeal

For the fourth year in a row Bank of Queensland will be the banking partner for the annual B105 Christmas appeal, raising funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Last year donations made through Bank of Queensland’s network reached almost $20,000, and they are hoping to top that this year.

BOQ Managing Director David Liddy kicked off this year’s fundraising appeal with a corporate donation of $10,000.

“As the Bank of Queensland, we are very committed to our local community, and are delighted to be involved with the B105 Christmas Appeal for the fourth consecutive year.

“Once again, we have opened our Queensland branch network up as a collection point for donations, and I would encourage everyone to get down to your local Bank of Queensland branch and drop your loose change into our collection boxes.  Every dollar helps.”

This year’s two-week appeal, which starts today, will help the RCHF improve and update its play and entertainment facilities, which are vitally important to children’s recovery process and well being.

Opportunities to play and interact with other children helps sick kids stay active mentally and physically, and helps them to maintain a positive attitude, so they are better equipped to fight their illnesses.

Entertainment services such as the Wonder Factory at the Royal Children’s Hospital provide a source of play activities and interaction with volunteers and other kids. A team of 300 volunteers play and interact with children here and in the wards.

This year funds raised through the B105 Christmas Appeal will go to improving facilities such as the Wonder Factory so that sick and injured kids at the Royal Children’s Hospital can not only speed along the healing process through a positive mental state, but are also able to take their minds off their illness or pain.

With B105’s new Breakfast Show on board, featuring Gabby, Mike, Stav, and Camilla, the Appeal is set to take a new and exciting direction. While many favourite elements of the appeal are continuing, including the appeal hotline and collections at various points around the city, an exciting night of smiles, tears and laughs has been added.

At 7.30pm on Friday, November 24, the Brisbane Powerhouse will be showcasing the B105 Christmas Appeal Comedy Gala. Local and national comedians will take to the stage to raise a laugh, as well as much-needed funds. Comedians will be donating their time and the Powerhouse will be donating the stage.
