BOQ to double WA presence with two new branches opening next month

Two new Owner-Managed Branches to open in Joondalup and central Perth

Bank of Queensland, Australia’s fastest growing retail bank, will double its WA presence next month, opening two new branches in Perth and Joondalup.

BOQ made its first foray into WA with the opening of an Owner-Managed Branch in Subiaco in April last year, and quickly followed this up with a branch in Applecross last September.

BOQ Managing Director David Liddy said the Bank’s unique Owner-Managed Branch Model enabled it to open 75 branches outside its home state last year, and they will continue to expand rapidly.

“We are planning on opening another 25 branches over the coming year, and are looking to build significantly on our presence in Western Australia.

“Both the Subiaco and Applecross branches have already been enormously successful.

“In fact, Subiaco branch is one of the most successful OMBs we’ve opened to date, which is a clear indication that BOQ’s unique service offering is welcome in WA!

“As WA is undergoing such huge growth at the moment, we are very keen to have a strong presence here.”

The Owner-Managers of the new branch in Perth’s CBD, locals Greg Righton and Peter Williams, said they were looking forward to becoming a part of the local community, and being able to offer personalised service to local residents and businesses.

“We’ve got such a great location in Wellington Street, right in Perth’s CBD, and we’re looking forward to getting to know the small business owners around our branch,” said Mr Righton.

“As we are now business owners ourselves, I think we’ll be able to better understand the challenges and opportunities they face.”

Mr Williams agreed, saying “We are looking forward to offering our customers a different banking experience.  Instead of dealing with a nameless, faceless operator on the end of the phone, we’re inviting our customers to come into the branch and give us the opportunity to get to know their business and offer them solutions to meet their needs!

“We’re also looking forward to getting together regularly with the Owner-Managers of Subiaco and Applecross, so we can find out what they’ve learnt since they’ve been open.”

The Joondalup branch will be owned and managed by long-term Ocean Reef resident, Derek Joy, who said he is looking forward to bringing a completely different banking experience to the area.

“My experience has taught me that bank customers want to deal with a bank that is accessible, locally based and understands the local community – everything the Bank of Queensland Joondalup will offer,” said Mr Joy.
“Ownership of my own business – the branch – allows me to understand the goals and operations of other small businesses and their need for personalised service,” he said.

“I see a lot of potential in the Joondalup area and I’m to support the development and growth of the local area as well as the wider community.”

The two new branches will be located at 577 Wellington Street, Perth, and 2/10 Reid Promenade, Joondalup.  Both branches will open in early February.
