Bank of Queensland Mt Pleasant has provided a much-welcomed boost to RSPCA Mackay with a donation of $1500 to sponsor their local RSPCA major events in 2009.
The next big event on the RSPCA calendar is the Million Paws walk on Sunday, 17 May and Bank of Queensland Mt Pleasant Branch Manager Shelly Brice can’t wait to pound the pavement with her two pooches, five and a half month old chihuahuas called Tanna and Lady.
Shelly said about the sponsorship, “I believe the work the RSPCA do is brilliant and when I moved back to Mackay last year I wanted to help out any way I could. I was offered the opportunity for Bank of Queensland Mt Pleasant to sponsor the Million Paws Walk and the 2009 local RSPCA calendar, which has since sold out.
“We are extremely proud to be sponsoring such a great establishment. I’ve always had an interest in caring for animals, and over the years I’ve volunteered at local RSPCAs where I would do anything from cleaning cages to helping the vet microchip the animals.
“I even undertook external studies in veterinary nursing while I was working in New South Wales. So I’m really pleased to be able to stay involved with helping animals.”
Shelly has been living in Mackay and working at the Mt Pleasant branch since mid-2007 but only took on the branch manager role in recent months. With five years in total at BOQ she earned her dues working in branches in Gladstone and Townsville in Queensland and Dubbo in New South Wales.
Shelly said she embraced every opportunity she was given to expand her skills and her hard work has paid off. Whether it be helping customers with their banking or volunteering at animal shelters Shelly said the same principles apply – caring about doing a good job and making a difference.
Shelly is also the Secretary for RSPCA Mackay and volunteers her time to the animals whenever she can. The Mackay RSPCA branch is currently raising funds to build an animal shelter in the local area.
