Five regional Queensland junior rugby clubs land a BOQ Boost {yellow-border}

Five grassroots junior rugby clubs across regional Queensland have each been awarded a $3,000 BOQ Boost, sharing in $15,000 of community funding delivered by Bank of Queensland (BOQ) in partnership with Queensland Rugby Union (QRU).

Chosen from almost 50 applications from clubs right across the state, the five winners will put their funding towards practical, on-the-ground improvements from new training equipment and junior kit to first aid gear and better facilities for families.

The 2026 BOQ Boost winners are

BOQ Group Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Rod Finch said the program reflected the bank's long-standing connection to regional Queensland.

“BOQ has been part of Queensland communities for more than 150 years, and we understand the important role local clubs play in bringing people together,” Mr Finch said.

“Investing in grassroots sport is one way we can support stronger, more connected communities across the state.”

Queensland Rugby Union Chief Executive David Hanham said the success of the BOQ initiative was obvious.

“The BOQ Boost funding will have an immediate impact where it matters,” Mr Hanham said.

“Footballs, headgear, mouthguards, water bottles, medical kits and so on…these are the types of things that grassroots clubs deal with every season. To have the involvement from BOQ is critical to support the growth of the game at club level.

“BOQ are truly connected around the state with their support at community level.”

The BOQ Boost builds on BOQ's wider partnership with QRU, including last year's donation of 7,000 rugby balls to Queensland junior clubs, and the “Every Try for Orange Sky” initiative, through which home tries scored by the Queensland Reds this season have helped fund laundry and shower shifts for Australians doing it tough.

BOQ and QRU will work with each winning club in the coming weeks to present the funding locally and celebrate the difference it will make in their community.
