Toowoomba Kids get a Boost From BOQ

The important work of local child safety awareness group Toowoomba CAN got a high-powered boost from the corporate world today when Bank of Queensland’s Managing Director David Liddy paid a visit.

Local kids took great delight in showing Mr Liddy an exhibition of posters they had prepared for a competition to mark Child Protection Week and based on this year’s theme Children See, Children Do.

Mr Liddy was led by competition winners Anah Chung (age 6) and Campbell Snow (age 7) and even took up crayons and butchers’ paper to help the kids create a new poster.

Bank of Queensland’s Ruthven Street branch is a key supporter of the Toowoomba CAN and acted as the “gallery” for the poster collection, the pick of which will feature in the annual Hello Baby! calendar for new parents.

Co-founder Emma McTaggart said the group valued Bank of Queensland’s support, a commitment was ably demonstrated by the visit from its chief executive.

“Local branch manager Greg Droney has been awesome in his support of our group, and has offered to keep the exhibition in place until the end of September so, in true Toowoomba spirit, we can enter it in the Carnival of Flowers Window Display competition,” Emma said.

As a token of our appreciation for his support, the kids presented Mr Liddy with a signed edition of this year’s Hello Baby! calendar and a copy of “A Child’s View”, an anthology of verse and short stories to which Toowoomba’s older school children contributed.

Mr Liddy said he was proud of the way his branches, and in particular the Ruthven Street branch, really got involved in their local communities.

“In fact, the reason I am in Toowoomba today is to officially recognise Greg and his amazing team their for their record-breaking fundraising effort during our recent Banking on our Kids campaign, which this year raised $170,000 for sick and injured Aussie kids,” Mr Liddy said.

“And it’s great to see Greg and his team continuing to support causes that benefit local kids.”

While in town, Mr Liddy took the opportunity to host a lunch at The Downs Club with key Bank of Queensland customers from the Toowoomba region.
